Part II Architectural Assistant

Órla Mc Carthy

BSc Interior Architecture, MArch, MSc Architectural Conservation

Órla joined Martin Ashley Architects in August 2026 as a Part II Architectural Assistant, having recently completed her Master of Architecture at the University of the Arts London.

She also holds an MSc in Architectural Conservation from the University of Edinburgh, where her dissertation explored the adaptive reuse of Ireland’s ecclesiastical village typologies. Recognised by the Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC), the research reflects her interest in the relationship between heritage, community, and place.

Prior to joining MAA, Órla gained experience working on a diverse range of heritage projects in the UK and Ireland, including Grade I and Grade II* listed buildings. Alongside her professional experience, she completed her MArch, where her postgraduate project explored the relationship between cultural identity, landscape, and contemporary dwelling. Shortlisted for an IDI Graduate Design Award, the project further developed her interest in place-based design, heritage, and the stewardship of historic environments.

Órla brings a thoughtful and context-led approach to architecture, informed by a strong appreciation of heritage, place, and the continued evolution of the built environment.
